“What A Pair” Event To Benefit The John Wayne Cancer Institute

 

John Wayne was not only a screen legend but an Icon.  Starring in numerous films including “Fort Apache” (1948), “The Sands of Iwo Jima” (1949) and “Rio Grand” (1950), it was the role in 1969’s “True Grit” that garnered Wayne his Oscar for Best Actor.  After a fifty year career in Hollywood, John Wayne passed away in 1979 from cancer.  In 1981, the John Wayne Cancer Institute was founded.  Over the past twenty-five years, the institute has made significant advances in research and treatment of various forms of cancer including breast cancer, colon cancer, liver cancer, melanoma/skin cancer and prostate cancer.  A number of charitable events help fund continuous research. 

 

One of this year’s events is the “What A Pair” event that will take place in Los Angeles.  The event, which will aide in the continuous research of breast cancer, will take place on June 11th, 2006 and will include a number of Hollywood notables who will be performing during the show.

Some performers scheduled to appear include:

 

-                      Christina Applegate from Anchorman (2004) with Will Ferrell, “Surviving Christmas” (2004) and the TV show “Married with Children”

 

-                      Jessica Biel who has appeared in “Blade: Trinity” (2004) with Wesley Snipes, “Stealth” (2005) with Jamie Foxx and “Elizabethtown” (2005) with Kirsten Dunst and Orlando Bloom

 

-                      Zooey Deschanel from the upcoming “Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford” starring Brad Pitt, the recent “Failure to Launch” (2006), Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy (2005), Elf (2003) and the “Almost Famous” (2000)

 

-                      Loretta Devine from the upcoming “Dreamgirls”, the critically acclaimed “Crash” (2004), “I Am Sam” (2001) with Sean Penn and the comedy “What Women Want” (2000) with Mel Gibson and Helen Hunt

 

-                      Merrin Dungey who played Francie on the TV show “Alias” and also appeared in the movie “Deep Impact” (1998)

 

-                      Joely Fisher who appeared on the “Ellen” TV shows as well as “Inspector Gadget” (1999) with Matthew Broderick and “The Mask” (1994) with Jim Carrey

 

-                      Jorja Fox who appeared in “Memento” (2000) and currently stars as Sara Sidle in the hit TV show “CSI”

 

-                      Samantha Harris who currently hosts the popular “Dancing With the Stars” TV show and has also appeared in “Drop Dead Gorgeous” (1999) and “George of the Jungle” (1997)

 

-                      Marg Helgenberger who currently stars in “CSI” as Catherine Willows and has also appeared in movies such as “Erin Brockovich” (2000) with Julia Roberts, the sci-fi thriller “Species” (1995) and its 1998 sequel and “Bad Boys” (1995) with Will Smith and Martin Lawrence

 

-                      Sharon Lawrence who starred as Sylvia in TV’s “NYPD Blue” and has appeared in other hit shows including “Desperate Housewives” and “Boston Legal”

 

-                      Vicki Lewis who voiced the characters Deb and Flo in the animated blockbuster “Finding Nemo” (2003) and has also starred in “Pushing Tin” (1999) and “Godzilla” (1998)

 

-                      Lori Loughlin who has been a fixture on hit TV shows such as “Full House” and “Summerland”

 

-                      Ann Magnuson from such movies as “Panic Room” (2002) with Jodie Foster, “Small Soldiers” (1998) and “Clear and Present Danger” (1994) with Harrison Ford

 

-                      Eden Riegel who appeared as Bianca on the ABC soap “All My Children” as well as the hit comedy “American Pie” (1999)

 

-                      Katey Sagal who starred as Peg in the hit TV show “Married With Children”, the animated show “Futurama” and the feature film “The Good Mother” (1988)

 

-                      Sally Struthers  from “All in the Family” fame as well as recent appearances on TV’s “Gilmore Girls”

 

-                      Lea Thompson from the blockbuster “Back to the Future” (1993) with Michael J. Fox and its two sequels, “Some Kind of Wonderful” (1987) and “The Beverly Hillbillies”  (1993)

The Honorary Host Committee for the event is chaired by Jamie Lee Curtis (Laurie from the "Halloween" movies and star of “True Lies” (1994) and A Fish Called Wanda (1988)) and also includes the following:

-                      Marcia Cross who is best known for her role as Bree on the hit TV show “Desperate Housewives”

 

-                      Vivica A. Fox from “Kill Bill Vol. 1” (2003) with Uma Thurman and “Independence Day” (1996) with Will Smith

 

-                      Morgan Freeman – the legendary actor from “Shawshank Redemption” (1994), “Batman Begins” (2005), and an Oscar winning performance in “Million Dollar Baby” (2004)

 

-                      Lucy Lawless who was TV’s “Xena: Warrior Princess” and who has appeared in such films as “Boogeyman” (2005) and “Spider-Man” (2002)

 

-                      Lisa Loeb – this musician appeared in 1999’s “House on Haunted Hill”

 

-                      Penny Marshall who starred in the hit TV show “Laverne and Shirley” and who made uncredited appearances in “1941 (1979) and “Hocus Pocus” (1993)

 

-                      Debi Mazar who has appeared in such films as “Be Cool” (2005) with John Travolta, “Collateral” (2004) with Tom Cruise and “The Insider” (1999) with Russell Crowe

 

-                      Monet Mazur who has appeared in “Monster-In-Law” (2005), “40 Days and 40 Nights” (2002) and “Blow” (2001)

 

-                      Megan Mullally best know as Karen from TV’s “Will & Grace” and co-star of “Stealing Harvard” (2002), “Monkeybone” (2001) and “Risky Business” (1983)

 

-                      Mary-Louise Parker who appears in the upcoming “The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford” and starred in “Saved!” (2004) and “Red Dragon” (2002)

 

-                      Denise Richards from “Scary Movie 3” (2003), “Undercover Brother” (2002), the 007 film “The World Is Not Enough” (1999) with Pierce Brosnan, and “Drop Dead Gorgeous” (1999)

-                      Jaclyn Smith who is best known for her role as Kelly Garrett on TV’s “Charlie's Angels” and reprised the role for the movie “Charlie’s Angels : Full Throttle” (2003) with Drew Barrymore, Cameron Diaz and Lucy Liu
