Upcoming Movies In 2007: August – December

 

The first half of 2007 was filled with a number of must see movies including “Spider-Man 3” and “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End”.  The month of July had the requisite summer blockbusters with Transformers, “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix” and “The Simpsons Movie”.  There are a variety of movies hitting theaters between August and December of this year.  We take a look at some of the films you can expect to see on the big screen.

 

Becoming Jane

This period drama starring Anne Hathaway is set for limited release on August 3rd.  In the film, Hathaway portrays a young Jane Austen, the prolific author, who seems to have romantic trouble with Tom Lefroy (James McAvoy).

 

The Bourne Ultimatum

Matt Damon returns as Jason Bourne in this “three-quel” hitting theaters on August 3rd.  Will Jason be able to finally put together the pieces of his past?  The movie stars Joan Allen, Julia Stiles and David Strathairn.

 

El Cantante

Starring Marc Anthony and Jennifer Lopez, “El Cantante” focuses on the life of legendary salsa singer Hector Lavoe and his wife Puchi.  The movie hits theaters on August 3rd.

 

Underdog

The animated favorite comes to the big screen on August 3rd in this live action film featuring the voice of Jason Lee as the title character.  James Belushi, Peter Dinklage and Patrick Warburton also star in the film about the loveable hound dog turned super hero.

 

Rush Hour 3

Crime solving duo, Carter and Lee, are back in “Rush Hour 3”.  This time around the partners (played by Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan) have to solve a caper while in Paris.  The movie hits theaters on August 10th.

 

Skinwalkers

What will happen when a mother and son are caught between two werewolf factions?  “Skinwalkers” is set to hit theaters on August 10th and stars Matthew Knight and Rhona Mitra.

 

Stardust

A young man isn’t the only one in search of a magical fallen star in this movie being released on August 10th.  “Stardust” stars Claire Danes, Michelle Pfeiffer and Robert De Niro.

 

Death At A Funeral

Comedy and mayhem ensue as family and friends gather for the funeral of a British patriarch.  “Death at a Funeral”, starring Peter Dinklage and Alan Tudyk, hits theaters on August 17th.

 

The Invasion

Also arriving in theaters on August 17th is “The Invasion” starring Daniel Craig and Nicole Kidman.  When an alien epidemic starts to spread on Earth, it’s up to Carol Bennell (Kidman) and Ben Driscoll (Craig) to find the cure.

 

Superbad

Evan, Seth and Fogell are on the verge of heading to college but what will the trio do to attend one more high school party?  “Superbad” opens on August 17th and stars Michael Cera, Jonah Hill, Christopher Mintz-Plasse and Seth Rogen.

 

The Nanny Diaries

College student Annie Braddock gets more than she bargained for when she agrees to be the nanny for the young son of wealthy socialites.  “The Nanny Diaries” starring Paul Giamatti, Scarlett Johansson and Laura Linney opens on August 24th.

 

War

Jet Li and Jason Statham star in “War” opening on August 24th.  In the movie, Statham plays Jack Crawford, a government agent bent on tracking down Rogue, the man who killed his partner.

 

Balls Of Fury

It’s the combative world of ping-pong in this comedy starring Dan Fogler, George Lopez and Christopher Walken.  “Balls of Fury” opens on August 29th.

 

Death Sentence

Nick Hume decides to take matters into his own hands after witnessing the murder of his son.  “Death Sentence” stars Kevin Bacon as Nick and Kelly Preston as his wife Helen.  The movie hits theaters on August 31st.

 

Halloween

Starring Malcolm McDowell as Dr. Loomis, this remake of the legendary horror flick was directed by Rob Zombie.  The story of Michael Myers opens on August 31st.

 

3:10 To Yuma

Christian Bale and Russell Crowe star in “3:10 to Yuma” which is set for release on September 7th.  In the western, Bale portrays Dan Evans, a rancher who takes on the task of guarding Ben Wade (Crowe), an outlaw who’s been captured and is awaiting the 3:10 train to Yuma.

 

Shoot ‘Em Up

What kind of trouble can a shady character get in after he helps to deliver a baby?  Clive Owen, Paul Giamatti and Monica Bellucci star in the action packed “Shoot ‘Em Up” which hits theaters on September 7th.

 

The Brave One

A woman becomes a vigilante after being brutally attacked.  “The Brave One” opens on September 14th and stars Jodie Foster, Naveen Andrews, Terrence Howard and Mary Steenburgen.

 

December Boys

The friendship between four orphaned boys is put to the test when it’s rumored that a couple is considering adopting one of them.  “December Boys” is set for limited release on September 14th and stars Daniel Radcliffe.

 

The Assassination Of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford

This long awaited western/action film stars Brad Pitt as Jesse James and Casey Affleck as Robert Ford who concocts a plan to assassinate the infamous outlaw.  The movie is set for limited release on September 21st.

 

Into The Wild

Christopher McCandless goes on a life changing journey into the Alaskan wild.  Who will he meet along the way?  “Into the Wild” stars Emile Hirsch as Christopher as well as Marcia Gay Harden, William Hurt, Catherine Keener and Vince Vaughn and opens on September 21st.

 

Resident Evil: Extinction

Milla Jovovich returns as Alice in this sequel hitting theaters on September 21st.  Alice joins forces with other Raccoon City survivors as they fight for survival.  “Resident Evil: Extinction” also stars Ashanti, Oded Fehr and Ali Larter.

 

The Game Plan

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson stars as Joe Kingman, a famed pro-football quarterback and confirmed bachelor.  But what will happen when his previously unknown daughter arrives?  “The Game Plan” also stars Kyra Sedgwick and opens on September 28th.

 

The Kingdom

After a terrorist attack in the Middle East, a team of government agents is sent to investigate.  “The Kingdom” hits theaters on September 28th and stars Jason Bateman, Chris Cooper, Jamie Foxx and Jennifer Garner.

 

The Heartbreak Kid

What happens when Eddie Cantrow, who believes he’s married the perfect woman, ends up meeting the woman of his dreams on his honeymoon?  “The Heartbreak Kid” stars Ben Stiller and Carlos Mencia and hits theaters on October 5th.

 

Michael Clayton

George Clooney stars in this movie as the title character, a tired lawyer who must face off against Karen Crowder, an opposing attorney of another firm, and Arthur Edens, a lawyer at Michael’s firm who sabotages an important case.  “Michael Clayton” is set for limited release on October 5th and also stars Tilda Swinton as Karen and Tom Wilkinson as Arthur.

 

Elizabeth: The Golden Age

Picking up after the original film “Elizabeth”, “Elizabeth: The Golden Age” focuses on the young Queen’s reign, including her interaction with Sir Walter Raleigh.  The movie, set for release on October 12th, stars Cate Blanchett, Clive Owen and Geoffrey Rush.

 

The Final Season

Based on a true story, Kent Stock risks everything to coach Norway High School’s champion baseball team.  Will he be able to lift the morale of his players as well as himself to win one last championship game before the school is merged with another district?  “The Final Season” stars Sean Astin and Rachael Leigh Cook an opens on October 12th.

 

Rendition

Jake Gyllenhaal and Reese Witherspoon star in “Rendition” hitting theaters on October 12th.  When Isabella El-Ibrahim’s (Witherspoon) husband, a suspected terrorist, disappears on a trans-Atlantic flight, she and Douglas Freeman (Gyllenhaal), a CIA agent who has been assigned to the man’s interrogation in a secret facility, try to fight for his release.

 

We Own The Night

A man must risk life and limb in an effort to save his father and brother from the mafia.  “We Own the Night” stars Robert Duvall, Joaquin Phoenix and Mark Wahlberg and opens on October 12th.

 

30 Days Of Night

The residents of an Alaskan town must battle vampires in this horror film.  “30 Days of Night” stars Josh Hartnett and hits theaters on October 19th.

 

Before The Devil Knows You’re Dead

Two brothers’ plan to rob the family’s jewelry store goes horribly awry in this thriller.  Albert Finney, Ethan Hawke, Phillip Seymour Hoffman and Marisa Tomei star in “Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead”, opening in theaters on October 19th.

 

The Comebacks

Football coach Fields (David Koechner) has his work cut out for him with a losing team.  “The Comebacks” hits theaters on October 26th and stars David Koechner.

 

Saw IV

The story of Jigsaw continues in the fourth installment of the “Saw” series.  “Saw IV” stars Tobin Bell and comes to theaters on October 26th.

 

Things We Lost In The Fire

After the death of her husband, a lonely Audrey and her children turn to Jerry, her husband’s best friend.  Hitting theaters on October 26th, “Things We Lost in the Fire” stars Halle Berry, Benicio Del Toro and David Duchovny.

 

American Gangster

Set in the 1970s, Detective Richie Roberts is up against a drug smuggler Frank Lucas.  Will he be able to stop him?  “American Gangster” stars Russell Crowe and Denzel Washington and comes to theaters on November 2nd.

 

Bee Movie

Jerry Seinfeld and Renee Zellweger are just two of the stars lending their voices to the animated feature “Bee Movie”.  Comedy ensues in this flick when Barry, a bee, befriends Vanessa, a florist.  Look for this movie on November 2nd.

 

Fred Claus

It’s not all holiday cheer when Fred moves in with his brother, the legendary Santa Claus.  Paul Giamatti, Miranda Richardson, Kevin Spacey and Vince Vaughn star in “Fred Claus” in theaters on November 9th.

 

Lions For Lambs

The views of a congressman, professor and journalist regarding a conflict in Afghanistan are the focal point of “Lions for Lambs”.  Opening November 9th, the movie stars Tom Cruise, Robert Redford and Meryl Streep.

 

No Country For Old Men

What will happen when a man comes upon the scene of a drug deal that went awry?  “No Country for Old Men” opens November 9th in limited release and stars Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin and Tommy Lee Jones.

 

Beowulf

The tale of the warrior Beowulf and his fight against the Grendel is the focus of this movie.  “Beowulf” is set for release on November 16th and stars Ray Winstone in the title role as well as Anthony Hopkins and the voice of Angelina Jolie.

 

Margot At The Wedding

Margot is none to pleased with her sister who has just become engaged to someone less than desirable.  “Margot at the Wedding” stars Jack Black, Nicole Kidman, Jennifer Jason Leigh and John Turturro.  It’s set to hit theaters on November 16th.

 

Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium

When Mr. Magorium leaves the world’s renowned toy store to Molly, an unsettling change begins to take place to the otherwise cheerful shop.  The film stars Jason Bateman, Dustin Hoffman and Natalie Portman and hits theaters on November 16th.

 

August Rush

Can an abandoned boy use his musical talents to find his true parents?  “August Rush” opens November 21st and stars Freddie Highmore, Terrence Howard, Keri Russell and Robin Williams.

 

Enchanted

A storybook prince and princess along with the evil queen come to life in present day New York.  “Enchanted” stars Amy Adams, Patrick Dempsey, James Marsden and Susan Sarandon and is scheduled for release on November 21st.

 

Christmas Cottage

Marcia Gay Harden and Peter O’Toole star in “Christmas Cottage”.  The movie, set to hit theaters on November 30th, and tells the story of artist Thomas Kinkade’s inspiration in painting the Christmas Cottage.

 

His Dark Materials: The Golden Compass

Also known as “The Golden Compass”, this movie, opening December 7th, stars Daniel Craig and Nicole Kidman.  A young girl ventures into strange people, places and things during a journey to save her friend.

 

Leatherheads

George Clooney wrote, directed and stars in “Leatherheads”, hitting theaters on December 7th.  Set in the 1920s, football team owner “Dodge” (Clooney) has his hands full with new recruit Carter (John Krasinski) who also has eyes for Dodge’s girlfriend Lexi (Renee Zellweger).

 

Alvin And The Chipmunks

Alvin, Simon and Theodore, the stars of the animated series, hit the big screen on December 14th in “Alvin and the Chipmunks”.  The trio is up to their old antics while living with David Seville (Jason Lee).

 

I Am Legend

An epidemic wipes out civilization, leaving only Robert Neville as the last human alive.  Now he must fend off the deadly creatures that immerge as night falls.  “I am Legend” opens December 14th and stars Will Smith.

 

National Treasure:  Book Of Secrets

Benjamin Gates returns in this sequel hitting theaters on December 21st.  This time around Ben tries to get to the truth of the Lincoln assassination.  Nicolas Cage, Justin Bartha, Diane Kruger and Jon Voight return for “National Treasure: Book of Secrets” which also stars Ed Harris and Helen Mirren.

 

The Other Boleyn Girl

King Henry VIII is the object of desire of Anne and Mary Boleyn, two sisters vying for his attention.  “The Other Boleyn Girl” stars Eric Bana, Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johansson and comes to theaters on December 21st.

 

Sweeney Todd

This infamous musical comes to the big screen in limited release on December 21st.  Johnny Depp stars as the “demon barber of Fleet Street” who does more than cut patron’s hair.  The movie also stars Helena Bonham Carter, Sacha Baron Cohen and Alan Rickman.

 

Aliens Vs. Predator

Also called “AVP2”, this sequel opens on December 25th.  This time around the residents of a small town must work together to defend themselves against the onslaught of the two species.

 

Charlie Wilson’s War

Tom Hanks stars as the title character in “Charlie Wilson’s War”, opening on December 25th.  Charlie Wilson, a congressman from Texas, works diligently to aid rebels in the Afghan effort against the Soviet Union.
