My Take:
The original soundtrack for “Dirty Dancing” contains a number of memorable tunes that are still popular today. The chart topping soundtrack starts off with the Grammy and Oscar winning number “(I”ve Had) The Time of My Life” by Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes before delving into the timeless classic of “Be My Baby” by the Ronettes. The CD goes into a more melancholy feel with “She’s Like the Wind” by Patrick Swayze, one of the stars of the film. It then picks up again with the upbeat “Hungry Eyes” by Eric Carmen but then slows down a bit with Maurice Williams and the Zodiac’s “Stay. The up-tempo “Yes” by Merry Clayton is next followed by the authoritative “You Don’t Own Me” by the Blow Monkeys. Next up is the danceable “Hey Baby” by Bruce Channel with Zappacosta’s “Overload” hot on its heels. The soundtrack shifts back to the classic feel with Mickey & Sylvia’s version of “Love is Strange” with Tom Johnston’s feel good song “Where are you Tonight?” following. The CD ends on a slower note with the Five Satins’ “In the Still of the Night”.
Best Track:
There were plenty of upbeat songs and even a few of the slower, melancholy tunes that I liked on this soundtrack. Some of my favorites included “(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life” with the great vocals of Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes. I think when everyone hears this song they immediately think of the movie. I also liked Patrick Swayze’s haunting vocals on “She’s Like the Wind” and Eric Carmen’s almost angry tone on “Hungry Eyes”. There were a few classic songs on the CD and one of my favorites has to be “Love is Strange”. Mickey and Sylvia’s take on the song made it seem fun.
