My Take:

The “City of Angels” soundtrack contains good, solid music that represents the dramatic overtones of the movie.  It begins with the U2 tune “If God Will Send His Angels” which is one of their more melancholy tunes and then goes into Alanis Morissette’s haunting “Uninvited”.  Jimi Hendrix’s “Red House” adds a bluesy feel to the soundtrack which is followed by the slower tones of “Feelin’ Love” by Paula Cole.  The blues are back with “Mama, You Got a Daughter” by John Lee Hooker with Sarah McLachlan’s soulful “Angel” coming next.  The more upbeat number “Iris” by the Goo Goo Dolls is next followed by the more somber/slower tunes of “I Grieve” by Peter Gabriel and “I Know” by Jude.  The rockin’ beat of Eric Clapton’s “Further Down the Road” changes the mood of the CD.  Four musical numbers by Gabriel Yared close out the CD including the orchestral number “An Angel Falls”, the guitar influenced “The Unfeeling Kiss” and then “Spreading Wings” and “City of Angels” which are also orchestral tunes.

Best Track:

I really liked the melancholy feel of some of the music.  Some of my favorites include the strong vocals of Alanis Morissette in “Uninvited” as well as the almost mournful sound of “Angel” by Sarah McLachlan.  “Iris” by the Goo Goo Dolls added a much needed change of pace for the CD which was good.  Another good change was the solid guitar work and vocals for “Further Down the Road” by Eric Clapton.  The best musical number was “An Angel Falls” by Gabriel Yared, with its sorrowful sound, the tune still seemed more inspired than the others.
