Male Star Of The Year
Don Cheadle won the honor of male star of the year. Cheadle received an Oscar nomination for his work in “Hotel Rwanda” (2004) and has also starred in “Crash” (2004) and “Boogie Nights” (1997). He stars in the upcoming “Reign Over Me” (2007) with Adam Sandler and reprises his role as Basher Tarr for “Ocean’s 13” (2007).
Female Star Of The Year
Female star of the year honors went to Kirsten Dunst. Dunst recently starred on the big screen as the title character in 2006’s “Marie Antoinette”. She has also starred in Interview with the Vampire, “Bring It On” (2000) and Spider-Man. She reprises her role as Mary Jane Watson for the upcoming “Spider-Man 3” (2007).
Supporting Actor Of The Year
Freddy Rodriguez was named ShoWest’s supporting actor of the year. Rodriguez will appear in the upcoming movie “Grindhouse” (2007). He has also starred in the 2006 movies “Bobby”, “Lady in the Water” and “Poseidon”.
Supporting Actress Of The Year
Supporting actress kudos went to Rosario Dawson. Dawson, who also stars in “Grindhouse” has starred in Clerks II, The Rundown and Sin City. She will also star in the upcoming film “Killshot” (2007) with
Male Star Of Tomorrow
Although you might not recognize his name, Shia LaBeouf has made plenty of memorable appearances in films. LaBeouf, who won the male star of tomorrow award, has appeared in “Bobby”, “A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints” (2006), “Constantine” (2005) and “I, Robot” (2004). He’ll next be on the silver screen in the highly anticipated movie “Transformers” (2007).
Female Star Of Tomorrow
Her aunt Julia Roberts holds nothing over on female star of tomorrow, Emma Roberts. The younger Roberts has starred in “Blow” (2001), “Aquamarine” (2006) and will play the title character in the upcoming movie “Nancy Drew” (2007).
Comedy Star Of The Year
Funny man Steve Carell won ShoWest’s comedy star of the year award. Carell received critical acclaim for his role in the 2006 hit movie Little Miss Sunshine. He has also starred in “Bruce Almighty” (2003), Anchorman, “The 40-Year-Old Virgin” (2005) and as the voice of Hammy the Squirrel in the animated Over the Hedge. Carell can be seen in the upcoming “Evan Almighty” (2007) and as the voice of the Mayor in the animated “Horton Hears a Who” set for release in 2008.
Directors Of The Year
Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino, who both had directors’ duties for the upcoming “Grindhouse”, received honors for their work when they were named directors of the year. Rodriguez was the man behind the camera for such films as “From Dusk Til Dawn” (1996), “Spy Kids” (2001) and Sin City. He’s also at the helm for the Sin City sequels due out in 2008. Tarantino received critical acclaim for his work on “Reservoir Dogs” (1992), “Pulp Fiction” (1994) and the Kill Bill movies.
Animation Directors Of The Year
Chris Miller and Raman Hui received animation directors of the year honors. The two directed the “Shrek the Third” which is set to hit theaters in May 2007.
Producer Of The Year
Jerry Weintraub was named producer of the year. Weintraub has produced such films as “Ocean’s 11” (2001), “Soldier” (1998) and “The Karate Kid” (1984). His upcoming works include “Ocean’s 13” and “Nancy Drew”.
Screenwriter Of The Year
ShoWest’s screenwriter of the year honors went to Bruce Joel Rubin. Rubin, who won an Oscar for his screenplay for “Ghost” (1990), also worked on the movies “Jacob’s Ladder” (1990), “Deep Impact” (1998) and “The Last Mimzy” (2007).
