Famous Film Fathers

 

Just like Memorable Movie Moms there have been a number of Famous Film Fathers who run the gamut of being funny, loveable or even sinister.  We take a look at some of these memorable movie dads!

 

Bill Cosby – Himself (1983)

This film showcases Bill Cosby’s hilarious stand-up act.  Among other topics, Cosby includes what it was like growing up and how he deals with his kids now.

 

The Champ (1979)

Billy Flynn (Jon Voigt) is trying to make a better life for himself and his son T.J. (Rick Schroder).  Will making a comeback in the boxing ring be the opportunity he’s looking for?

 

The Godfather (1972) and The Godfather III (1990)

Fatherhood isn’t all that it’s cracked up to be when you’re also a leading mob boss.  Francis Ford Coppola directed this film starring Marlon Brando as Don Vito Corleone.  Al Pacino would play Michael Corleone in 1990’s “The Godfather III”.  In the film, the family tries to go legit with disastrous results.

 

The Family Man (2000)

Jack Campbell (Nicolas Cage), a successful business man, gets the opportunity of a lifetime.  He gets to see what life would have been like if he would have married his sweetheart, Kate (Tea Leoni).

 

Father of the Bride (1991)

This remake of the Spencer Tracy classic starred Steve Martin and Diane Keaton.  It’s all the pressures (and comedy) of impending nuptials when George (Martin) and Nina’s (Keaton) daughter (played by Kimberly Williams-Paisley) announces she’s getting married.

 

Ghost Dad (1990)

This movie directed by the legendary Sidney Poitier starred Bill Cosby as Elliott.  Elliott is trying hard to raise his family after the death of his wife but a sudden turn of events turns him into a ghostly figure.  Is Elliott really dead?

 

In the Name of the Father (1993)

This biographical movie starred Daniel Day-Lewis as Gerry Conlon.  When Conlon is forced to admit to an IRA bombing he had no part in, the repercussions affect his family, including his father Giuseppe (Pete Postlethwaite).

 

The Incredibles (2004)

Mr. Incredible (voice of Craig T. Nelson) and Elastigirl (voice of Holly Hunter) settle down in suburbia and try to raise their three children.  What will happen when the chance to become a superhero again arises?

 

Life is Beautiful (1997)

Guido (Roberto Benigni) loves his wife Dora (Nicoletta Braschi) and their son Giosue (Giorgio Cantarini).  But during World War II, when the family is placed in a concentration camp, Guido is determined to do anything to ensure the safety of his son.

 

Mrs. Doubtfire (1993)

Daniel (Robin Williams) does the only thing he can to see his children when Miranda (Sally Field) takes custody of them.  He poses as Euphegenia Doubtfire, Miranda’s female housekeeper.

 

Parenthood (1989)

This family movie was directed by Ron Howard and starred Steve Martin and Mary Steenburgen).  Gil Buckman (Martin) tries to deal with fatherhood, marriage and everyday life.

 

Pinocchio (1940)

Geppetto (voice of Christain Rub) creates a small boy out of wood.  Things change, however, when the puppet comes to life.  Dickie Jones voiced the character of Pinocchio in this animated favorite while Cliff Edwards was the voice of his sidekick, Jiminy Cricket.

 

The Shining (1980)

“All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy” in this horror flick based on the novel by Stephen King.  Jack Torrance (Jack Nicholson), his wife Wendy (Shelley Duvall) and their son Danny (Danny Lloyd) find themselves isolated from civilization when Jack takes a job as a caretaker at a hotel that turns out to be haunted.

 

Three Men and a Baby (1987)

Jack (Ted Danson), Michael (Steve Guttenberg) and Peter (Tom Selleck) are roommates in New York.  Their bachelor days are turned upside down when Jack’s infant daughter is left in their care unexpectedly.

 

To Kill a Mockingbird (1962)

Gregory Peck starred as Atticus Finch in this renowned movie.  The lawyer/father must teach his children what is right in the film based on the novel by Harper Lee.

 

Vacation (1983)

Clark Griswold (Chevy Chase) has one thing on his mind:  Wally World.  Will he make it there with his wife Ellen (Beverly D’Angelo), his daughter Audrey (Dana Barron) and son Rusty (Anthony Michael Hall)?
