The EIF’s Lee National Denim Day (2006)

October is a month for a number of activities such as fall festivals and Halloween.  October is also breast cancer awareness month.  Each year the Entertainment Industry Foundation (EIF) conducts Lee National Denim Day, one of largest fundraisers for breast cancer, where participants get to wear denim for the day when they make a donation of $5.  Lee National Denim Day has raised over $60 million over the past ten years with funds benefiting EIF’s Women’s Cancer Programs which promotes research, education, early detection and treatment.

This year’s event takes place on October 6th and is supported by a number of Hollywood’s big names including Pierce Brosnan (The World Is Not Enough, The Matador) who is a celebrity ambassador for the event.  Actress Gabrielle Union (“Bring It On”, “She’s All That”) is also raising awareness of the event as well as honorary chairpersons of the Women’s Cancer Programs, Kate Capshaw (“Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom”) and Rita Wilson (“Volunteers”, “Sleepless in Seattle”).  The cast of the hit TV show “The Office” is taking part to raise awareness of Lee National Denim Day.  They include:  Steve Carell (Anchorman, Over the Hedge, “The 40-Year-Old Virgin”), Jenna Fischer (“Slither”), John Krasinski (“Kinsey”, “Jarhead”, “The Holiday”), B.J. Novak and Rainn Wilson (“My Super Ex-Girlfriend”, Galaxy Quest).

Another way the Entertainment Industry Foundation is raising money for its Women’s Cancer Programs is through a Denim Pockets Auction.  A number of celebrities have designed and signed individual denim pockets that are being auctioned through the Charity Folks website.  Celebrities taking part in the auction include:

-          Andrea Bowen (from TV’s “Desperate Housewives”)
