Comic-Con 2007

 

This year’s annual Comic-Con Convention took place from July 26th through 29th in San Diego.  The event not only spotlights the best in the comic book and the TV industry but is also a favorite venue for movie studios to showcase and give “sneak peeks” of some of their most highly anticipated films.  What were some of the movie highlights from this year’s Comic-Con?

 

 

3:10 To Yuma

Christian Bale and Russell Crowe star in this hit western.  In the film, Dan Evans (Bale)a struggling rancher, agrees to be the one to get outlaw Ben Wade (Crowe) on the 3:10 train to Yuma.  But Dan has his work cut out for him.

 

30 Days Of Night

Hungry vampires arrive in a remote Alaskan town in this horror movie.  “30 Days of Night” stars Josh Hartnett who appeared at the event.

 

300

Comic Con presented a preview of the DVD as well as a discussion on the blockbuster film “300”.  Some of the film’s stars, including Lena Headey, as well as director Zack Snyder and “300” creator Frank Miller were on hand at the event.

 

Balls Of Fury

It’s the dark side of the ping pong underworld in this comedy.  “Balls of Fury” stars Christopher Walken and Dan Fogler.

 

Beowulf

Comic Con offered a sneak peek at upcoming “Beowulf”.  Ray Winstone, Brendan Gleeson, Anthony Hopkins and John Malkovich star in this highly anticipated adventure.  The legendary hero must defeat the Grendel and its mother (voiced by Angelina Jolie).

 

The Chronicles Of Narnia: Prince Caspian

A sneak peak of the sequel to “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe” was shown.  “The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian” hits theaters in May 2008 and stars Ben Barnes in the title role.

 

Doomsday

A deadly virus threatens the citizens of the U.K. in this sci-fi thriller.  “Doomsday” is set for release in 2008 and stars Bob Hoskins and Malcolm McDowell.  Rhona Mitra, who also stars in the film, appeared at the event.

 

Fanboys

What will happen when a group of rabid “Star Wars” fans begin a quest to see “Episode I: The Phantom Menace” before it hits theaters by breaking into the infamous Skywalker Ranch?  “Fanboys” stars Dan Fogler and Kristen Bell who were on hand at Comic Con to discuss the film.

 

Get Smart

The popular TV show comes to the big screen, this time starring Steve Carell as Maxwell Smart.  “Get Smart” also stars Anne Hathaway and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and comes to theaters in June 2008.

 

Good Luck Chuck

Charlie a.k.a. Chuck gets more than he bargained for when he falls for Cam.  This romantic comedy stars Dane Cook and Jessica Alba, who were on hand at the convention to talk about the movie.

 

Halloween

Rob Zombie appeared at Comic Con to discuss his version of the legendary 1978 horror “Halloween”.  Who will be able to survive the maniacal Michael Myers in “Halloween” starring Malcolm McDowell?

 

Iron Man

The popular comic book is adapted for the silver screen in “Iron Man” set for release in May 2008.  Robert Downey Jr. plays crime fighting superhero in the movie which also stars Gwyneth Paltrow and Terrence Howard.

 

The Mist

There was also a sneak peak of “The Mist”, hitting theaters in November 2007.  Something evil lurks in the mist that envelopes a small town in Maine.  Marcia Gay Harden stars in this horror movie based on the Stephen King story.

 

One Missed Call

Edward Burns stars in the horror/thriller “One Missed Call” set to hit theaters in 2008.  What happens when people begin to receive cell phone messages that inform them of their fate?

 

Resident Evil: Extinction

Milla Jovovich and Ali Larter appeared at Comic Con to talk about the upcoming horror/action film “Resident Evil: Extinction”.  In this third installment of the popular video game, Alice joins forces with other survivors in a fight to stay alive.  The movie hits theaters in September.

 

Stardust

The search is on for a star when it falls from the heavens.  A sneak peak of “Stardust”, starring Claire Danes, Michelle Pfeiffer and Robert DeNiro was shown at “Comic Con”.  The movie is in theaters now.

 

The Strangers

Scott Speedman and Liv Tyler appeared at Comic Con in support of their new movie “The Strangers”.  The pair plays a couple who are terrorized while on vacation in this thriller hitting theaters in October.

 

Superbad

Michael Cera, Jonah Hill and Christopher Mintz-Plasse, who star in the hit movie “Superbad” were on hand at the event to support their new movie.  Is love in the cards for a group of college bound students?

 

Whiteout

Kate Beckinsale stars as a U.S. Marshall who has to investigate a crime in Antarctica.  Tom Skerritt also stars in the action/thriller “Whiteout”.
