Comic Books to Film

Superheroes are everywhere!  Most of us look forward to seeing our favorite comic book characters come to life on the big screen.  Which hero and/or heroine with superhuman strength and powers will be coming to a theater near you?

Batman

The caped crusader is back in the movie “Batman Begins” opening on June 15th.  This time around the film traces the beginnings of Bruce Wayne’s (Christian Bale) evolvement into Batman.  Other famous names starring in the movie include Katie Holmes, Michael Caine as Alfred, Liam Neeson and Morgan Freeman.  Also look out for Gary Oldman portraying Lieutenant Gordon before his commissioner days.

Fantastic Four

Although a film based on the Fantastic Four was made a few years back, look for this version to be filled with action and plenty of effects.  The movie takes us through the beginnings of the Fantastic Four and their battles with nemesis, Dr. Doom (Julian McMahon).  Mr. Fantastic (Ioan Gruffudd), the Invisible Woman (Jessica Alba), the Human Torch (Chris Evans) and the Thing (Michael Chiklis) will hit theaters in July.

Superman

Brandon Routh will portray the man of steel in the 2006 film “Superman Returns”.  Kate Bosworth will also be starring as Lois Lane while Oscar winner Kevin Spacey makes life difficult for Superman by playing Lex Luthor.  Due to video footage and computer technology, the late Marlon Brando, who portrayed Superman’s father, Jor-El, in previous films, will also be seen in this upcoming release.

X-Men

The third installment of the X-Men series is set to hit theaters in 2006.  Kelsey Grammer (Frasier) is set to join the cast as Hank McCoy a.k.a. Beast.  Reportedly set to return are Hugh Jackman as Wolverine a.k.a. Logan, Famke Jannsen as Jean Grey, Ian McKellan as Magneto and Patrick Stewart as Professor Xavier.

Spiderman

While filming is still a ways off, the rumors regarding “Spiderman 3” have run rampant.  Will Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst be reprising their roles as Peter Parker a.k.a. Spiderman and Mary Jane Watson?  Two actors have definitely been named as part of the film.  Thomas Haden Church (“Sideways”) and Topher Grace (“That Seventies Show”) are on board.
