Favorite Animated Holiday Features

 

From the Rankin & Bass features to the latest seasonal films, it seems there are plenty of animated Christmas favorites.  We take a look at some of the favorites from the big and small screen!

 

Beauty And The Beast: The Enchanted Christmas (1997)

This straight to DVD feature takes place during the time of the original “Beauty and the Beast” (1991).  When Belle (voice of Paige O’Hara) tries to bring Beast (voice of Robby Benson) some Christmas cheer, Forte (voice of Tim Curry) begins to plot against it!

 

A Charlie Brown Christmas

It seems Christmas is too commercial for Charlie Brown (voice of Peter Robbins).  With the help of his friends and trusty dog Snoopy, he tries to find the true spirit of the season.

 

Frosty The Snowman (1969)

A magical magician’s hat helps to bring Frosty the Snowman (voice of Jackie Vernon) to life.  Will Frosty, with the help of Karen (voice of June Foray), not only avoid melting but outwit the wily Hinkle (voice of Billy De Wolfe)?

 

Frosty’s Winter Wonderland (1976)

This animated feature was narrated by Andy Griffith.  Jack Frost tries to foil the marriage between Frosty (voice of Jackie Vernon) and Crystal (voice of Shelley Winters), a “snow mate” that the children made for him.

 

How The Grinch Stole Christmas

Boris Karloff narrated the classic tale of the Grinch.  Will the Grinch succeed in ruining Christmas for his neighboring Whos?

 

Jack Frost (1979)

Jack Frost (voice of Robert Morse) convinces Father Winter to allow him to become human in order to win the love of Elisa.  But things don’t go according to plan when the evil Kubla Kraus (voice of Paul Frees) captures Elisa and then plans to destroy the village.

 

The Life And Adventures Of Santa Claus (1985)

Santa Claus (voice of Earl Hammond) is faced with his own mortality on his last Christmas Eve ride.  Hoping to intervene, The Great Ak (voice of Alfred Drake) calls a meeting of the immortals in order to convince them that Santa deserves immortality due to his extraordinary life and deeds.

 

The Little Drummer Boy (1968)

Young Aaron (voice of Ted Eccles) finds himself orphaned and alone when his parents are killed.  However, with his trusty drum in tow, on the night Jesus is born, Aaron is able to give the one true gift that he has.

 

The Little Drummer Boy: Book II (1976)

This story picks up where the original 1968 feature left off.  This time around, it’s up to Aaron and his animal cohorts to retrieve a precious set of silver bells.

 

Nester The Long Eared Christmas Donkey (1977)

Roger Miller narrated this animated story about a donkey with unusually long ears.  Nester finds himself all alone in the world after his mother dies in a snow storm while saving him.  With only Tilly (voice of Brenda Vaccaro), his guardian angel, by his side, Nester finds himself on the road to Bethlehem where he soon realizes his greater purpose in life when he meets Mary and Joseph.

 

The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)

This feature by Tim Burton told the story of Jack Skellington (voice of Chris Sarandon), the king of Halloweentown.  When Jack discovers Christmastown, he soon becomes obsessed with the entire concept of Christmas.

 

Pinocchio’s Christmas (1980)

Pinocchio (voice of Todd Porter) is determined to find the money to buy Geppetto (voice of George S. Irving) a Christmas gift.  Will his lying get him into further trouble?

 

Polar Express

A young boy (voice of Tom Hanks) boards a magical train headed to the North Pole on Christmas Eve.  Will his faith in Santa Claus be restored?

 

Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reineer And The Island Of Misfit Toys (2001)

Rudolph (voice of Kathleen Barr) and his friends Hermey and Yukon Cornelius (both voiced by Scott McNeil) are back!  This time around it’s up to the gang to save Christmas when they have to outwit the Toy Taker (voice of Rick Moranis) who has stolen Santa’s (voice of Gary Chalk) toys.

 

Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer

Sam the Snowman (voice of Burl Ives) narrates this story about Rudolph (voice of Billie Richards), a reindeer with a red, shiny nose.  Although he and his friend Hermey (voice of Paul Soles) are considered misfits, when a blizzard threatens to cancel Christmas, it’s up to Rudolph to save the day.

 

Rudolph’s Shiny New Year (1976)

When Happy, the baby New Year goes missing it’s up to Rudolph (voice of Billie Richards) to find him!  With the help of One Million B.C. (voice of Morey Amsterdam), Sir Ten To Three (voice of Frank Gorshin) and “Sev” a.k.a. Seventeen Seventy-Six (voice of Paul Frees), will the gang be able to save the baby New Year and time itself from the clutches of Eon (also the voice of Paul Frees)?

 

Santa Claus Is Comin’ To Town (1970)

A mailman/narrator (voice of Fred Astaire) tells the story of Kris Kringle’s a.k.a. Santa Claus’ (voice of Mickey Rooney) beginnings with the elves, Jessica a.k.a. Mrs. Claus (voice of Robie Lester) and his run-ins with Winter (voice of Keenan Wynn) and the dreaded Burgermesiter (voice of Paul Frees).

 

The Story Of The First Christmas Snow (1975)

When Lucas, a young shepherd boy is blinded by lightning during a storm, Sister Theresa (voice of Angela Lansbury) and the other nuns take him in.  Will Lucas not only regain his sight but also have a happy Christmas despite Father Thomas’ (voice of Cyril Ritchard) insistence on sending him to an orphanage?

 

‘Twas The Night Before Christmas (1974)

After Santa Claus receives a mean letter from a small town, he decides to skip the place on his annual Christmas Eve flight.  However, Joshua Trundle (voice of Joel Grey), the local clockmaker, has a plan to get Santa’s attention and save Christmas for the town.

 

The Year Without A Santa Claus

When Santa (voice of Mickey Rooney) decides to take a vacation one Christmas, Mrs. Claus (voice of Shirley Booth) along with Jingle (voice of Bob McFadden) and Jangle (voice of Bradley Bolke) try to show him there is still holiday spirit by visiting Southtown, USA.  Will Santa be convinced to take his annual trip or will the Heat Miser (voice of George S. Irving) and Snow Miser (voice of Dick Shawn) have something to say about it?
