The New York Film Critics circle recently announced its awards for this year’s best movies and performances. Which films, actors and actresses were honored?
Best Picture
The critically acclaimed “United 93” won the award for best picture. The film recreates the events that took place on 9/11 onboard the ill-fated flight that crashed in
Best Animated Feature
The hit movie “Happy Feet” was awarded the best animated feature prize. The movie, featuring the voices of Elijah Wood, Robin Williams, Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman, tells the story of Mumbles who must follow his own groove when he realizes he can’t sing!
Best Director
Martin Scorsese won the best director award for “The Departed”. Scorsese, who has received critical praise for the film, has been previously Oscar nominated for such films as “Goodfellas” (1990), Gangs of New York and “The Aviator” (2004).
Best Actor
Forest Whitaker continued his winning streak when he received the New York Film Critics Circle best actor award. Whitaker won for his work in “The Last King of Scotland” where he portrays Ugandan leader Idi Amin.
Best Supporting Actor
The best supporting actor award was won by Jackie Earle Haley. Haley portrays Ronald McGorvey in the critically acclaimed film “Little Children”.
Best Actress
Helen Mirren received more kudos for her work in “The Queen”. Mirren won best actress for her role of Queen Elizabeth II.
Best Supporting Actress
Another actress on a winning streak is Jennifer Hudson.
