13th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards

 

The 13th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards took place on January 28th, 2007.  The awards honor the best actors and actresses as voted on by their peers.  The festivities kicked off with introductions by William Shatner, Jada Pinkett Smith, Marg Helgenberger, Freddy Rodriguez, Vanessa Williams and Shirley Jones and awarded the best in TV and film.  Which films walked away with honors?

 

Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture

Babel

“Bobby”

“The Departed”

“Dreamgirls”

“Little Miss Sunshine”

 

And the winner is…  Annette Bening introduced this award which went to the cast of “Little Miss Sunshine”.  The film’s stars Alan Arkin, Abigail Breslin, Steve Carell and Greg Kinnear were on hand to accept the honor.

 

Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role

Leonardo DiCaprio for “Blood Diamond”

Ryan Gosling for “Half Nelson”

Peter O’Toole for “Venus”

Will Smith for The Pursuit of Happyness

Forest Whitaker for “The Last King of Scotland

 

And the winner is…  Reese Witherspoon presented this award to Forest Whitaker for his role as Idi Amin in “The Last King of Scotland”.

 

Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role

Penelope Cruz for “Volver”

Judi Dench for “Notes on a Scandal”

Helen Mirren for “The Queen”

Meryl Streep for “The Devil Wears Prada”

Kate Winslet for “Little Children”

 

And the winner is…  Jeremy Irons introduced this award that went to Helen Mirren for her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II in the movie “The Queen”.

 

Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role

Alan Arkin for “Little Miss Sunshine”

Leonardo DiCaprio for “The Departed”

Jackie Earle Haley for “Little Children”

Djimon Hounsou for “Blood Diamond”

Eddie Murphy for “Dreamgirls”

 

And the winner is…  Marcia Gay Harden presented this award to Eddie Murphy for his role as “Thunder” Early in “Dreamgirls”.

 

Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role

Adriana Barraza for “Babel

Cate Blanchett for “Notes on a Scandal”

Abigail Breslin for “Little Miss Sunshine”

Jennifer Hudson for “Dreamgirls”

Rinko Kikuchi for “Babel

 

And the winner is…  Greg Kinnear introduced this award that went to Jennifer Hudson for her role as Effie White in “Dreamgirls”.

 

Life Achievement Award

Dick Van Dyke and Anne Hathaway introduced the 43rd Life Achievement Award that was presented to Julie Andrews for her work in film.

 

Other notable events:

Ashton Kutcher presented the award for “Outstanding Female Actor in a TV Movie or Miniseries” to Helen Mirren for her work in “Elizabeth I”.

 

America Ferrera and Forest Whitaker presented the award for “Outstanding Male Actor in a TV Movie or Miniseries” to Jeremy Irons for his work in “Elizabeth I”.

 

Individual introductions to the movies nominated for best ensemble were made by:

-          Anika Noni Rose for “Dreamgirls”

-          Emilio Estevez for “Bobby”
